Handy Tips To Follow Before You Call Your Repair Person

When it is time to call in a tradesperson to fix an appliance, take a few steps to be prepared before you pick up the phone.

One of the first things to do is place all of the warranty information and booklets that arrive with your appliance into a file. It doesn't have to be anything special. If you don't have a file folder you don't need to go out and buy one, just assign a drawer or cabinet space to this type of paperwork. You will never have to go searching for it if you keep it all in one place.

If your appliance is still under warranty, call the number listed in the documentation before you call a local repair person. You will be informed of the next steps to take. If it is not under warranty, check with family and friends to see if they have a trustworthy repair person that they can recommend. If not, go online or look in your yellow pages for someone nearby. Have the appliance paperwork with you when you call the repair person. You will be able to give him or her accurate information regarding the name of the appliance and the make and model number.

Unless your repair is urgent, it could be a day or two before the repair person can come and fix your appliance. Ask them for some references that are in your local neighborhood. If they do not wish to give your references, move on to the next tradesperson in the phone book. If they do, make sure you follow up and contact the references and the Better Business Bureau to see if there are any complaints about the company.

Don't leave yourself open to shady business people. This person will be coming in your house so make sure you feel safe about them.
