Tools to Keep a Happy Home

Tools to Keep a Happy Home

It's been repeatedly shown that a half dozen, or less, key tools can enable a substantial amount of repair around the home. Let's take a look at these primary implements:

Hammer. Houses are built with thousands of nails, and nails also hold up many a framed picture. Driving nails in is best done with a hammer. Pick one with 'claws' on the backside, which will help you to take any nails out that need to be removed.
Pliers. Perfect for grasping that stubborn jar lid until you manage to twist it off, pliers are also the ultimate tool when holding on tightly is essential.
Flat bladed screwdriver. Whether you're opening a new can of paint to change the color in your space, or need a mini-pry bar, a screwdriver is always handy. Not to mention it helps remove sunken screws from where you don't want them.
Phillips screwdriver. If it's not flat-bladed, it's a Phillips, and one does not easily work upon the other. It's important to have both for tightening loose screws, which help to hold together everything from cabinet doors to mirrors on the wall.
Allen Keys. While not as mainstream as other tools, allen keys are specialized and little else can be used to tighten an allen bolt in their absence. Many coffee tables and instantly assembled bookshelves use allen keys rather than screws.
Swiss Army Knife. It would be hard to make the case that this is just one tool, as it obviously has many, depending on its size.
Or you can take the option of living in New Jersey apartments, where a highly trained and experienced maintenance staff takes care of most issues for you — with about a half dozen key tools! Whichever style best suits your needs, hands-on or hands-off, these tools will be used to help keep your space in good repair.
